What Is Hewlett-Packard's Professional Services Organization? ********* PSO01.GAL ********* ..pictureA:\CTG\PSO01.GAL,65535,49151,1,43,13, The overall objective of this slide presentation is to introduce Hewlett Packard's Professional Services Organization and the commitment HP has made in professional services towards helping the customer move to an open systems environment. This slide defines the mission of HP's Professional Services Organization (also known as the PSO). The PSO's primary charter is to assist customers so they can optimize productivity and gain the competitive advantage in their business. This is done through consulting and educational services. These services provide assistance in doing needs assessments, creating awareness, planning transitions, understanding and choosing technologies, setting up pilots, implementing new technologies, and supporting technologies...just to name a few. .PA HP's Professional Services Open Systems Program Objectives ********* PSO02.GAL ********* ..pictureA:\CTG\PSO02.GAL,65535,49151,1,43,13, This slide defines three objectives of HP's PSO: o provide a roadmap-- The PSO has created a roadmap of professional services that will help customers through the process of moving to an open environment. This roadmap can be used to assist customers in identifying where they are in the process and then to customize a portfolio of services that will take them on the most direct route for creating an open environment. o contribute to the business success-- The PSO is dedicated to contributing to the business success of customers. This is done by delivering the highest quality educational and consulting services which range from identifying and planning open systems computing solutions to implementing and supporting them. o assist customers in incorporating change-- The PSO can help customers meet the challenge of change within their organization so the corporation can cohesively focus on achieving strategic advantage. .PA HP's Open Systems Program Highlights Educational Services ********* PSO03.GAL ********* ..pictureA:\CTG\PSO03.GAL,65535,49151,1,43,13, This slide highlights the open systems offering from HP's PSO Educational Services program: o Currently, HP offers 9 OSF technology seminars and courses with new ones being added to the curriculum as soon as they are available from OSF. We also have over 50 seminars and lecture/lab courses that are part of the open systems curriculum. The seminar introduces managers, developers, and administrators to the technology solutions that can best enhance the "openness" of current and future computing environments. Specific training courses teach software development professionals, system administrators, and end users on how open system technologies interact, as well as how to implement, administer, and utilize applications and systems in an open environment. The curriculum encompasses technologies that span operating systems, user environments, networked services, databases, languages, tools, and hardware and application interfaces. o HP offers a very extensive UNIX curriculum and has been doing so for the past 10 years. Courses are available on a wide range of subjects for beginner, intermediate, and advanced level users. Key topic areas are administration, software development, database management, programming languages, and networking. o Some seminars and courses provide information about the latest technologies and are not tied to a specific vendor's implementation. Some lecture/lab courses focus on HP's implementation of standards and technologies, however, you can easily apply at least 75 percent of the content to other vendor's platforms. These courses are ideal for those in a multiple-vendor environment. You can take one course and leverage it across your entire network of varying implementations. o There are over 40 worldwide education centers that regularly schedule most of the curriculum. You can be assured of the same consistent high quality instruction and environment regardless which center you or your staff attend. Each education center is ideally set up for a learning environment that promotes class interaction and hands-on experience. o All Hewlett-Packard instructors have real-world experience and have gone through a rigorous instructor certification program. They continually get involved in activities that keep them current with new technologies and they often interact with the divisions that have created standards and new technologies. o Most customer education courses and seminars can be delivered onsite at customer's facilities. Or a course can be exclusively delivered to one customer at HP's facilities. All courses can be tailored to your specific needs. .PA HP's Open Systems Program Highlights Consulting Services ********* PSO04.GAL ********* ..pictureA:\CTG\PSO04.GAL,65535,49151,1,43,13, This slide highlights the open systems' offerings from HP's PSO Consulting Services program: o HP has created teams of consultants worldwide that are dedicated to delivering consulting on open systems technology. o Strategic Solutions S.W.A.T. (Strategic Weapons and Tactics) teams have been established to demonstrate the latest technologies referencing customers' current environments. They also provide assistance with prototyping and creating pilots at the customer's site. o Hewlett-Packard offers open systems consulting services that are designed to guide customers through the entire process of moving to an open environment. These services include needs assessment, benefits analysis, IT strategy consulting, migration planning, and business information strategy consulting. As an example, the OSE (Open Software Environment) Workshop is designed for those who need a fast start to open systems and is customized to leverage customers' current environments. It is a two-day customized interactive consulting workshop that can be delivered at sales offices, at customers' sites or at division headquarters. The OSE Workshop focuses on: -helping customers design their own open software architecture -refining plans for migration to open systems -providing guidelines for incorporating new technology o HP's proven consulting methodology which is modular in design has been proven effective over the past 10 years. It is optimized for focused areas and ensures consistency, quality, reduced risk, and fast implementation. HP's tailored solutions offer flexibility (buy only what you need) and customization which address both large and small problems. Specific business needs are met with cost-effective solutions. o HP has consulted with many Fortune 500 customers and has consistently received very high satisfaction ratings. .PA The HP Way To A More Open Environment ********* PSO05.GAL ********* ..pictureA:\CTG\PSO05.GAL,65535,49151,1,43,13, This slide illustrates how HP views the customer process of moving to a more open environment. It walks customers through the progression of steps that occur in reaching this open environment. There are two major points to this slide. 1) The first point is to establish credibility with customers by showing them that we understand the process from their viewpoint. Walk them through the slide by stepping through each stage of the process and pointing out the key players in each of the stages. At the end, it is important to note that not all customers will go through this process top down. Some may start in the middle and move in either direction from there. The left hand side of the slide lists the different members of customers' organizations. Each of these members is responsible for the execution of the various stages - those that are indicated in each of the boxes to the right. If you were to follow the process top down, here is an example of how you may proceed. The key executive will set the vision for the entire corporation. This in turn determines the business strategy. In effect, the business strategy feeds and determines the information systems strategy which is typically established by the CIO. The information systems strategy influences and determines the information technology strategy, for example, the target architecture, and the IT strategy that is transition planning. These are established by the MIS/IT managers. These strategies help form the basis of a pilot which is typically led by the pioneers, early adopters and lead teams within the company. The next step in the process is implementation and deployment and finally followed by ongoing support and management. It is important to note that needs assessment surrounds the entire process once the business strategy is set. This is a very important step that must occur in order to attain the vision that has been established. HP recognizes that there may be variations of this process but it essentially captures the major elements. Once again reiterate that not all customers will go through this process top down. The second point to make on this slide is that HP's Professional Services Organization offers the services that map directly into this process. Consulting programs exist for each of the stages in the process. For example, to help customers create their information technology strategy, HP offers the OSE workshop. This is intended to help customers design their software architecture. To help customers build their business information strategy, HP has an information systems strategy consulting service. To help customers set up their pilots that incorporate the latest available technologies, HP has Strategic Solutions S.W.A.T. teams. Education forms the foundation and runs throught the entire process to ensure success of the move to a more open environment. The word education is printed on the background arrow to illustrate this. In addition, the arrow also shows that education will promote forward movement. It is important to note that a particular seminar or course may be appropriate for more than one type of audience. For instance, we offer OSF technology seminars that are appropriate for MIS/IT managers as well as senior engineers who are assisting with evaluations of the technologies. The next slide provides more detailed information about the educational services that are available. Footnote to presenter: Slides five and six are the first two slides in a series that will be released later on this year from PSD. This future set of slides will expand on the customer process slide and the roadmap to open systems. It will provide more details on consulting services, educational services, and how they are integrated to form one roadmap. Since there is no specific slide for consulting services at this time, it is important to mention some of the specific offerings while presenting slide 5. .PA HP Educational Services: A Foundation For Open Systems ********* PSO06.GAL ********* ..pictureA:\CTG\PSO06.GAL,65535,49151,1,43,13, This slide represents a snapshot of educational services that HP offers. Note that pictorially this slide is a subset of the customer process slide, the previous slide. The large arrow box is the same arrow box that formed the background representing education on the previous slide. It is a good idea to make this connection so they can see tha HP offers educational services that form the foundation and are offered for the different stages throughout the entire process. _______________________________________________________________________________ For your information The difference between educational service offerings and consulting service offerings is that while HP offers consulting services that are specific to each stage of the process, an individual educational offering may be appropriate for more than one stage of the process. For example, the OSF technology seminars (education) are appropriate for some members of the organization while in the information technology strategy stage as well as for others while in the enterprise-wide implementation stage, whereas the OSE workshop (consulting) is appropriate only while in the information technology strategy stage. This is more difficult to represent graphically and may not be necessary. The customer should understand is that we have a combination of services (consulting and education) to handle all their needs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The top level shows the seminars available for the key executive. These seminars focus on the business advantages of open systems. The Cambridge Technology Executive Seminar is a seminar that HP promotes for key executives in order to help them attain the vision of open systems. In addition to this, the sales organization sponsors HP Executive Seminars on related topics. The rest of the slide depicts the educational offerings appropriate for different aspects of open systems depending on where one is in the process. Just step through each section highlighting the main objective of each of the educational services. For instance, the offerings listed under open systems awareness are for those who want to gain a high-level understanding of concepts and capabilities of open systems technologies. The next level, technology demonstration, highlights The Open Systems Hands-On Workshop which provides hands-on experience using and demonstrating various open systems technologies. The seminars offered in the section labeled technology understanding are for those who need to understand and evaluate the capabilities of the various technologies. And finally, there is a wide variety of seminars and lecture/lab course available for those who are implementing open systems technologies in the development, user, operating, network and database environments. It is important to note that there is not a one-to-one correlation of the left column of members of the organization to the courses and seminars. Many of the courses and seminars are appropriate for more than one type of audience. For example, the Open Systems Concepts and Capabilities Seminar may be attended by anyone who needs a high-level understanding of open systems, not just CIOs or technology managers. For more information on the open systems curriculum, you can refer the audience to the HP Education catalog that is available in the literature racks or at the education centers or available by request by calling the Customer Registration Center, 1-800-HPCLASS (1-800-472-5277).
